Sicily For A Euro

It's about time EURSOC had a property column, so here goes. According to The Times, the Mayor of Salemi – a Sicilian town 72km from Palermo - is inviting overseas buyers to invest in property in his town's historic centre.

The picturesque buildings standing on the ancient hillside are going for a knock-down price of ONE EURO each - though prospective buyers are warned that they will have to restore their buildings to the town's exacting heritage standards, using local labour. The work will need to be completed within two years of purchase.

Still, sounds like a deal. Salemi has grand plans to become another Pantelleria or Costa Smeralda, both very popular (and very expensive) with Europe's in-crowd. If it takes off that way, that euro might be the best you ever spent!
