Drink Up

As often happens, the Swedish have the answer. In seperate studies conducted by scientists and doctors in Stockholm: Drinking alcohol can have a significant effect upon the risk of developing arthritis.

Who knew ? Only after years of research by Dr Henrik Kallberg and Dr Lars Alfredson at the Karolinska Institute in the capaital of Sweden, have we received the verdict.

These studies, involving dozens of research assistants with the ability to organise analysis involving over 2,750 volunteers, discovered that even people who smoke or have a 'genetic' tendency to what is known as 'rheumatoid arthritis' are helped by drinking.

And we are not talking about a tipple or two. What the Karolinska Institute says is that the "protective effect" is the result of "heavy drinking". This should be interpreted as a good dose of vodka per day. Not a couple of glasses of beer.

The Swedish research team also came to the conclusion that there was no difference depending on whether the candidates were either men or women.

Cheers.
