The Lying Game

By

For a long as we can remember, 'lie-detectors' bave been considered the ultimate device in police stations, private detective agencies, security services and in films to find out if you are lying.

The theory has been that 'body language', sweaty palms, changes in heart or brain rhythm is the key to knowing that the 'suspect' is not telling the truth.

The latest version of a 'lie-detector' has been developed by an Israeli company, Nemesysco. Mossad, one of the Israeli intelligenge services, uses it to identify potential terrorists. The system is claimed to be based on sonic frequencies of people's voices.

The London borough of Harrow has bought one (or two). (Cost not disclosed). (Although we maybe talking about £465,000 a shot).

Dr Mitchell Sommers, a phychologist at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, has come up with the a very good point: Is it useful to detect a liar with a lie ?

Because whatever Nemesysco says, good liars are better than lie-detectors.
