Terminal Disease
The Queen officially opened London Heathrow airport's new Terminal 5 early this month. It cost £4.6 billion to build. Construction started in 2002.
Since passengers walked in the many front entrances there has been nothing less than chaos.
So far, an average of 36 departures have been cancelled per day. This week 'hold luggage services' were suspended. (So you travel with almost nothing).
Many hopeful air travellers have had to wait a minimum of four hours to reclaim their cases. (If they were lucky). A considerable number of stranded travellers have spent the night on the floor of the shiny new building.
British Airways (BA) is the sole airline to operate at tortured Terminal 5. (The terminal is the biggest to be fabricated anywhere and at the world's largest international airport).
A BA spokesman has issued a statement saying: "We sincerely apologise to those customers who have suffered disrupted journeys".
Suffering is the right word.
Welcome to Heathrow Terminal 5. Don't fasten your seat-belt because your flight will probably not take-off. But if it does, do not expect to reclaim your baggage upon return.
