No More Predictions
As John McCain emerges victorious from the Florida primary, EURSOC's US correspondent Chris Timmers despairs of the crystal ball game.
Dear Readers,
Remember last summer how I predicted that the presidential campaign of John McCain was out of gas, and money, and that he was going nowhere? Remember how I said Barak Obama of the Democrats wasn't to be taken seriously?
No? Good. Stop reading here.
For the rest all I can say is: Wow! John McCain last week won South Carolina, and tonight did the same in Florida. Delegate counts for the Republicans read 97 for McCain and 74 for Romney. Romney is far from out of it, although we understand from Fox News that tomorrow, 30 Jan, former New York city mayor Rudy Guiliani will be dropping out of the race and throwing his support behind McCain.
Barak Obama's surge continues to be impressive, having won the South Carolina primary (of the Democrats) 53% to 27% over Hillary Clinton. At this point we have Obama with 41 confirmed delegates and Hillary Clinton with 21 delegates. Clinton this evening won the Democratic primary, but no delegates were at stake. So she is ahead in the total state count but still behind in delegates.
Tuesday the 5th of Feb is what we refer to as Super Tuesday, for on that date 22 states will hold their Presidential primaries. Key states like New York and California will be in play along with several southern states. Who knows what will happen. The only thing we can say with certainty is that, based upon results so far and the sometimes incredibly errant polls, nothinig is certain. Sorry if that seems like a prediction. But there you have it.
Stay tuned.
