Know Your Enemy
How helpful of the European Union to come up with a guide advising government spokesmen on how to avoid confusing Islam with terrorism. Where would we be without them?
The guidelines suggest governments avoid using words like "jihad", "Islamic" and "fundamentalist" in favour of "non-offensive" phrases like "terrorists who abusively invoke Islam".
The Telegraph reports that the guidebook is secret and Eurocrats have only just admitted to its existence. It is supposed to prevent "distortion of Islam and the alienation of Muslims in Europe."
UK Independence Party MEP Gerard Batten was scathing: "This type of newspeak shows that the EU refuses to face reality... The major world terrorist threat is one posed by ideology and that ideology is inspired by fundamentalist jihadi Islam."
